What to Wear to a Concert (Plus-Size Edition)
Stand for hours, dance, stay cool, and still look great in photos.
2 min readA great concert outfit has to survive a long line, a packed floor and a few hours on your feet. Here is how to look good and stay comfortable.
The concert rules
Concerts mean standing, walking, crowds, and heat. Dress for that first, then add the fun.
- Comfort beats everything. If it pinches in the mirror, it will hurt by the encore.
- Breathable fabric. Venues get hot. Cotton blends and mesh panels help.
- Hands-free. A crossbody or belt bag, and check the venue's bag policy before you go.
Outfit formula: bodysuit + bottoms
- A bodysuit stays put when you dance or raise your arms.
- Pair it with jeans, cargo pants, or a denim or faux-leather skirt.
- Add a sheer or mesh layer on top if you want more coverage without more heat.
Outfit formula: the band-tee upgrade
- A fitted or knotted graphic tee with a mini skirt or biker shorts.
- Add a statement belt to define your waist.
- Thigh chafing? Anti-chafe shorts under a skirt are a game changer for a long night.
Outfit formula: a little sparkle
- Sequins, metallics, or rhinestone mesh catch stage lights beautifully.
- Keep the rest simple so the sparkle stands out.
- Pick sequins with a soft lining so they do not scratch.
Shoes
- Closed-toe shoes in crowds. Someone will step on your feet.
- Broken-in boots or platform sneakers give height without pain.
- Skip brand-new shoes on show night.
Outdoor shows
- Layer: tank, light shirt, and a jacket you can tie at the waist.
- Bring a light rain layer if the forecast is shaky.
- Sunscreen on shoulders if your top is strapless or off-shoulder.
Quick picks
- Bodysuit + wide-leg or straight jeans
- Graphic tee + mini skirt + anti-chafe shorts
- One sparkly piece, everything else simple
- Broken-in boots or platform sneakers
